Guidelines Display of Charging Locations with Restricted Access

13/06/2025

Charging locations are groups of EVSEs, ranging from a single to multiple charging stations. While some locations are technically accessible via roaming for eMSPs, they are not publicly accessible — e.g. company or hotel parking areas reserved for customers or guests.

Access may be restricted by barriers or signage. These locations should not be shown as standard public charging points in eMSP apps, to avoid misrouting drivers to places they cannot use.

Some CPOs don’t share location data with eMSPs, making it impossible to show prices upfront — which is often required — and complicating VAT calculations due to missing address details.

Others do share such locations, but eMSPs may still display them as public, leading to poor user experience when drivers encounter restricted access.

Roaming protocols do allow CPOs to flag access restrictions, but there are no clear guidelines for how eMSPs should handle them. That’s why eViolin’s WG POI Data has developed a guideline to address this.
